The story of William S. Crowdy is known throughout the Church. Due to what the Prophet means to each and every Saint in the Church, we will carefully comb through his biography and post a full version soon.

Timeline Highlights:

Kansas 1896

- Church of God and Saints of Christ established, November 8, 1896

- Evangelist William Crowdy established 10 Tabernacles in 10 of the largest cities in Kansas in less than 1 year

First General Assembly, June 24, 1898, Emporia, Kansas

- First Presbytery Board established

- Elder S. M. Sidney, Chairman of the Presbytery Board

- Evangelist William Crowdy recognized as a Prophet

- First Bishop ordained to Assistant Bishop James M. Grove

- Evangelist Crowdy ordained a Bishop, June 26,1898

- First Church Constitution formed

- Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy formed (National Daughters Auxiliary)

- First Daughters uniform introduced (Black Daughters suit - Traveling Uniform)

 

Second General Assembly, October 1899, Lawrence, Kansas

General Assembly, May 1901

- Daughters taught how to wear badges and rosettes

EASTERN CHURCHES

First District Assembly in the East, June 24, 1901, Newark, New Jersey

- Elder Calvin Skinner appointed District Storehouse Master

- Daughters voted to add white collars and cuffs to black daughters' suits

First new year observance for the eastern Tabernacles, April 1, 1901

- Prophet Crowdy announced the first Passover to be held for the eastern Tabernacles

The Black Passover, April 14, 1901

- The first Feast of the Lords Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread for the eastern Tabernacles

- Prophet instructed Daughters to wear black skirts and white blouses, male ministers to wear full dress suits, and remaining brothers to wear short coat tuxedo black suits. The Prophet wore a black English Walking suit

Purple Passover, April 14, 1902

- The Prophet requested all Tabernacles in the east to wear Purple Robes at the Passover.

- Held at Zuker City Hall on Broad and Fitzwater, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

- Daughters wore sashes, badges, collars and rosettes with their robes

- Purple Robes were worn the first and last days, black and white were worn all other days

District Assembly, 1902

- Second District Assembly called for the eastern Churches

- Elder Calvin Skinner appointed first member of Presbytery Board

The first choir, January 1902

- Prophet formed the first choir in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Purple Passover, April 14, 1903

- Purple Robes were worn the first and last days, black and white were worn all other days

The last Purple Passover, April 14, 1904, Newark, New Jersey

- Purple Robes were worn the first and last days, black and white were worn all other days

Passover, April 14, 1908, Washington D.C.

- The last Passover the Prophet attended

UNIFORMITY WEST AND EAST

District Assembly, June 29, 1903, Boston, Massachusetts

- The second Presbytery Board established for the east was formed on the first day

- Bishop James Grove, already a member of the Presbytery Board in the west, was made President of the Presbytery Board in the east

- Evangelist At Large Joseph Crowdy was appointed Chairman of the Presbytery Board

- Other representatives from the west also attended

- Official uniforms were put in place to ensure uniformity throughout all the Tabernacles in the west and east

- Prophet pins were introduced by St. Bertrice Lutz

General Assembly, July 1904, Washington D.C.

- Evangelist At Large Joseph W. Crowdy appointed Chief of the Pulpit

- District Evangelist William H. Plummer appointed Grand Father Abraham, General Superintendent over all the business of the Church of God and Saints of Christ

- Elder Calvin Skinner appointed Counselor

- Prophets Epistle December 11, 1904, the first Holy Days, written in Washington, D.C.

- Prophets Epistle December 25, 1906, Special Holy Days, written in Washington, D.C.

Grand March, September, 24, 1905, Washington D.C.

- Held at True Reformers Hall

White Uniforms

- Fall of 1905, Chief Chorister St. Anna Frame requested all choirs to wear white uniforms, white dress with lavender trimmings

Passover, April 14, 1906, Plainfield, New Jersey

- The Prophet introduced the Brown and Blue uniform in detail

Assembly 1907, Richmond, Virginia

- Held at True Reformers Hall

Fall of 1907

- The Prophet suffered a stroke and was partially incapacitated for the remainder of his life

Blue and White Uniforms implemented in 1907

Assembly, 1907, Richmond, Virginia

- The last Assembly the Prophet attended

The Prophet dies, August 4, 1908

- Evangelist Frederick Hamilton, a mortician, and his son Allen Hamilton prepared the Prophet's body to be laid to rest
