Singers of Israel
In January 1902, in Philadelphia, Prophet Crowdy received the vision of the choir. It was a vision of an angel pulling strings with a choir responding. In the vision, the angel pulled the first string and the choir stood. He pulled the second string and the choir sang melodiously. He pulled the third string and the choir was seated. Thus, Prophet Crowdy set up the first choir in Philadelphia. Elder William H. Plummer was appointed the first male choristers. There's no record of who the other first choristers were. The Prophet once referred to the singers of the choir as "God's battle axe". Part of the intent of the original music of the Church was to help Saints remember the scriptures through song form. It was also used to capture the attention of the listeners, given many of the songs were composed directly from scripture. The choir was able to sing songs to match the text from which the minister read during service. After the sermon, the choir would sing a song that reflected the sermon's message and help draw in new souls to Christ.
The Semi Circle (The Royal Arch)
The choir seating formation is a semi circle which represents the Royal Arch that supports the entire framework or structure of the spiritual services rendered in and to the Church. In this sacred arrangement, none are to be seated except those who are ordained or appointed as singers of Israel (1 Chronicles 6:31-33, Habakkuk 3:19, II Chronicles 20:1-24, II Timothy 2:1). The opening of the center represents the torn veil (Matthew 27:51, Luke 23:45) that once hid the Oracles of God, the Ark of the covenant, etc. from view (Hebrews 9:1-10). The opening in the center is the space occupied by the spiritual key stone which connects all the supports together.
The Trumpet
Scriptures: Numbers 10:1-7, Joel 2:1, 15-18
The trumpet is a very important instrument in the Church. It is always used to give signals to the Church; to assemble, to begin services, and for various marching moments including the recessionals and processionals of the choir. On the seventh morning of the Holy Convocation at the start of the service, the trumpet is sounded to signal assembly and to commence the victory march three times around the tabernacle's wall. It is usually carried by the Pastor during this march. It's place is to the right of the Bible upon the sacred desk top.
The Baton
The baton is used to direct the choir, bringing order and rhythm.
The Shepherd Staff
The Shepherd Staff is physical representation of the staff used by shepherds to guide their flock or herd. It is also a representation of the spiritual guidance God provides when He leads (Psalm 23:4). It is adorned with streamers the colors of the season and is used during services to lead the choir.
